CRYOPEN
CryoPen is a quick, non-invasive advanced treatment used to safely target, freeze and remove certain benign skin lesions using a precise jet of extreme cold (cryotherapy). We can treat skin tags, age spots, sun spots, warts/verrucas, cherry angiomas, milia and some other superficial skin imperfections, following a consultation* to confirm suitability.
How it works
The treatment applies controlled nitrous oxide (-89 degrees celcius) directly to the area, freezing the targeted tissue while minimising impact to the surrounding skin. The body then naturally removes the treated cells over time.
What to expect
Treatment is usually very quick, with most areas taking only seconds to treat. Clients commonly describe the sensation as a brief stinging, tingling or cold discomfort during application, which settles quickly afterwards. Mild redness, tenderness, darkening or a small scab can occur as the area heals. Occasionally, a blister might form and persist for up to 5 days. After it scabs over, the lesion's healing depends on how deep the wound is. Typically, healing will occur from 2-6 weeks, depending on the length of freeze and location.
Results:
The treated area will gradually heal and the lesion typically reduces or sheds over the following days or weeks, depending on the type and size of the lesion. Most lesions will respond to a single treatment. However, some deeper or viral lesions may take several aggressive treatments to get results. We will discuss this in detail during your consultation.
Will there be scarring?
Typically, it leaves the least amount of scarring of any form of lesion removal because it causes the least amount of damage to the connective tissues. Both hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation may occur after cryotherapy, generally lasting a few months, but can be longer lasting. Please ask your therapist about this before treatment.
Contra-indications
It is not possible to have a Cryopen treatment if you have any of the following: Unstable diabetes Open wounds, infection, inflammation or broken skin in the treatment area Suspected or confirmed melanoma Skin cancer or suspected skin cancer Malignant tumours Infections accompanied by fever Chemotherapy or radiotherapy within the last four weeks Pregnancy or breastfeeding Cold intolerance/hypersensitivity to cold Vascular insufficiency Undiagnosed, suspicious or changing lesions Poor or compromised circulation or impaired sensation in the treatment area Raynaud's disease Cold urticaria Cryoglobulinaemia Prone to keloid scarring
